The Australian Burden of Disease Study 2011 even stated that if everyone was in the normal weight range, disease burden in Australia would be reduced significantly.  It’s a very strong indication of where we are headed if we don’t do something about it.

I’ve heard so many stories from clients as to how they have felt when they’ve carried around all those extra kilograms.  It’s effected much of, and sometimes even their whole life and how they feel about themselves.  I’ve heard many say that they’ve tried this and that diet, only to falter and/or come to the end… and then revert back to their old behaviours, old way of coping, feeling despondent, disappointed and depressed.

Do Diets Work?

The thing is, diets can work short term but what they don’t do is work in the long term.  That’s where they fail miserably.

Now, you may ask ‘Is keeping weight off impossible’?  My answer to you is a definite NO!  But only if you don’t ‘go on’ a diet! 

You see when the mind is told it’s ‘going on’ a diet… then at some stage it thinks it has to ‘come off it’.  Hence the weight goes up and down, up and down. 

Someone will go really well for a time and then go back to dodgy eating habits and many diets are based on deprivation.  For example; ‘you can’t have this’, or ‘you can’t have that’ OR ‘you can only have x amount’… you know exactly what I mean.  Once you make food forbidden, you want it even more, it’s all you can think about.  The pull towards food becomes so strong, increases ten-fold and you just gravitate towards it and more than often than not, eat two-three times as much.

Most people who have excess weight, have broken foundations.  Like a house, it must first have good foundations.  If they’re broken or cracked then it will eventually fall down.  With good foundations in place, it’s much easier to build a sound structure that will stand the test of time.

 

Nothing changes without change!

Now there is no magic pill when it comes to change.  All change requires some conscious effort.
